Jiffy Lube Live
On this weekend I saw DMB and Phish on back to back nights, after touring several civil war battlefields for a couple of days. One big Civil War buff here, but had not been to Manassas or Antietam before. Of course, Bristow is right by Manassas where two important battles of the Civil War were fought. On the way to Mannassas I saw Gettysburgh, Frederick MD and the Antietam Battlefield. See photos and comments on my main photo /blog site.

MPP is a legendary venue built for the Symphony but where many of the rock greats played in the 60s. Photos below of the scene before the show.

Venetian Theatre at Caramoor
Bruce played with Sonny Emory on drums / percussion, then they played together with Pat Methany's group. Watching Methany perform on one of his double neck Manzer guitars like the one shown above is quite a unique experience. Most Hornsby fans know that Pat helped out on some of Bruce’s albums; but I wonder how many fans of Trey Anastasio know what a primary inspiration/influence he has been on Trey. According to Manzer’s website, Pat’s Manzer guitar collection includes 12 different models and is still growing.

This was perhaps my favorite show of 2014, which was a great year for shows. A lovely night at SPAC after the rains finally subsided. Everyone seemed to be dancing and having a great time at this show, and we had excellent seats.

2014-11-06 Jeff Coffin and The Mu'tet
Drom
I enjoyed the recently issued Mu'tet CD and grabbed at a chance to see Jeff play at a small club venue. Because Jeff has been with DMB since I saw my first DMB show (and I've seen 50), I've now seen Jeff play about as many times as any other musician, and he's one of my favorite musicians on the planet.

I feel quite lucky to have seem him at least once, having missed - to my extreme chagrin - the tour with Elvis for The River in Reverse. What a huge influence on so much of the music played by the various bands covered on this blog. I was totally impressed at what a great showman he was, and he seemed to have a lot more inside him.

Amazing diversity of songs and phenomenal setlist. Warren fitting right in … with Neil Young’s “Down by the River” played with great passion; the ‘‘Lovely Ladies” on background vocals and the fans singing loudly.
There is a wonderful Copperpot video available online, My photos cover a lot of goodies including Boyd’s big solos, the “industrial" stage set for the Acoustic set, and some nice looks up at Dave and Carter as they mingled a bit after the show. The sequence with Warren bears a resemblance to what’s seen in the Copperpot video, but my angle is a bit more extreme and I think it makes the shots pretty interesting.

Maybe my favorite live acoustic set ever; a completely topnotch setlist all throughout, with the boys at the top of their game, loose and relaxed in spite of the hurricane outside. Just stunningly great music throughout. Camden becomes one of my favorite venues in the world after seeing phish and dmb shows there over the years.
