Madison Square Garden

Back at MSG for Gilmour in fine form as he completed what might be his last US tour . The films in back of the stage having a certain similarity to those I’d seen at MSG before during the 1977 and 1987 Floyd shows there.

The tour was for Rattle that Lock, a fine new album that Gilmour wrote mostly using his wife’s lyrics. Phil Manzanera played a key role in both making the album and on the live tour. There are some interesting music videos and materials in the box set which include a small gathering where Gilmour explains how he recorded the very first sounds on the album on his iphone - an automated train door jingo from a train in France - which served as the inspiration for the first track.

Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion

Sat lower center in Section 2B with a really great bunch of nice people, mostly Warehouse fans who sang and danced all night in Row 12. My 50th show and among my all time favorites. Dave was a total monster on this night! He sang, danced, joked, and just created a wonderful energy. He introduced the new song "Samurai Cop" as a song he wrote because he like babies. Coincidentally for me, on the next day I would be driving home for the expected birth of a little one. But on this night I had to stay to the very end, I loved every second of this show.

The Imperial Bedroom album was featured at this show, which is certainly not a bad thing. Actually something I always regretted not being able to see in the era the album came out. The one-and-only incredible Maurice Worm (also known as Steve Nieve) shines on all this material, as always.

Representing the songs were the large slides of artwork shown over the band, as seen below, some modified from familiar album cover shots.

Tarrytown Music Hall

Another fine show at Tarrytown Music Hall.  John Pizzarelli is a great jazz guitar player and fabulous entertainer and band leader.  I have seen him play several times, including his Sinatra Show at Radio City Music Hall.

I saw his Sinatra tribute show at Radio City (years earlier) and thought he did a great job. I told him so when I met him by chance one night at Dizzy's Café. Its always good to support Tarrytown Music Hall, a rare not-for-profit venue.
